 Tribute to Ashleigh

Hills BMX Club (Western Australia) rider Trent Evans, rode an impressive race on Sunday 3 August 2008 in the Westside Super Series. The 16 year old, who has been racing for 13 years, won the Elite division with more than style. It was his triumph to honour his good friend Ashleigh.

Ashleigh was 16 when she was killed in a car accident on the Mitchell Freeway recently. “I have known Ashleigh for four years now” he says. “And over those years we became good friends. Ash was one of the nicest, down to earth girls I have ever known. She loved all her friends and family, was always happy and could make you smile just by being around her”.

Trent, who has been riding Elite for two years, claimed first place in AA out of 12 riders. “I rode this race meeting for Ashleigh because she was always interested in my racing, and I wanted to make her proud and win this meeting for her. For me too win this race meeting, it felt unbelievable, it was my first elite win and that’s why I dedicated it to Ashleigh”.

Tribute to Greg Kitchin 

Greg raced for eleven years but it was in the last three years of his career that his full potential was reached. He competed in his first state titles in 1992 to finish 4th and from there his results were better and better every time he entered an event. 4A in 15 boys and and intermediate cruiser, 1WA - 16 yr boys. 1WA 16-17 cruisers. 2A 16-17 cruisers and WA rider of the year. Then of to America where he placed 2nd at the US Grand Nationals.5th in the NBL competition and 2nd in the World Titles aged 16. Whilst in the US Gregs' talent was noticed by Hyper and he was given a factory team sponsorship. His race number 87 is held in his memory.

Greg was a wonderful role model for our young riders. His quiet and giving personality belied an unbielvably competitive streak. We will always miss his smile and the sport will miss his strength.
